Coming out on top

Scott Baker, left, tournament director, hands Tim Bidwell his plaque for high qualifier, which was donated by Rusty Linsted, the son of the tournament’s namesake.

The cold, snowy weekend was the perfect setting for qualifying in the inagural Linstead Cup Bowling Tournament.

A total of 53 competitors battled the pins. Tim Bidwell, a third year bowler, prevailed as top qualifier heading into the upcoming weekend’s matchplay format.

Bidwell has been making great strides in his game, and his hard work has showed.

Two of the finest female players are also advancing. The 2014 Herald Masters Champion Kayla Card, and Nikki Hartman, represented the ladies very well.

Perhaps the biggest story of the event, so far, is for the first time in more than 30 years, Billy August qualified in sixth place and will advance to the finals.

A clear crowd favorite, no one could smile as much as he did.

With the diversity of the finalists and the current young high-scoring bowlers to the seasoned veterans, Mr. Linsted is sure to be smiling.

Matchplay action will begin at 1 p.m., Saturday.

Finalists:

1. Tim Bidwell

2. Shane Taylor

3. Brian Reynolds

4. Kayla Card

5. Josh Johnson

6. Bill August

7. Charlie Kline

8. Kevin Snyder

9. Ralph Wolfkiel

10. Nikki Hartman

11. Broc Baker
